Goals and Outcomes that I'm striving to achieve in my life
We all have that ever allusive peak we're striving to reach in our hike called life. Along the way we have checkpoints, goals if you will. But do any of us ever become satisfied with our personal, professional or academic achievements? Or are we always thinking, "Well I'd still like to do this, or get that done, or mark that other thing off my list". I know for myself that I am as such, because it is not in my nature to become complacent or satisfied with my current place in life. I have always felt that life is a treadmill, and if you're not moving forward, it is taking you backward. So with that, in order to serve as a reminder for myself, and an informant for you, here is a list of just SOME of my goals.
Long Term Goals
1) publish an autobiography interesting enough that others will in fact read it.
2) have a large posterity with which to share my life and happiness. 3) have a second home in Switzerland, my native land. 4) have a pet monkey and name him Freddy. 5) obtain a black belt in any one martial arts discipline |
Short Term Goals
1) in addition to speaking English, German and Swiss, learn Spanish, French, and Italian...and maybe some others...maybe this is long term...
2) go skydiving. 3) take a ballroom dance class. 4) attain my BSN and DNP. 5) write more frequently in my personal journal. |

Students Communicate Effectively
During my time at SLCC I have had the opportunity to participate in many group projects and hear the wonderful ideas, opinions, and perspectives of many of my peers that demonstrated great student communication. This has taught me that in order to succeed to the fullest of your abilities academically, personally, and professionally, you need to be able to corroborate with others effectively.
Students Develop Quantitative Literacies Necessary for Their Chosen Field of Study.
As I plan to go into the field of Nursing, I know that I will be required to take several courses that have to do with mathematical conversions and equations. In nursing - and healthcare in general - you will see a lot of conversions that require accuracy to ensure better care provided to your patients. Courses that have helped, and continue to help me in this respect are General Chemistry, Organic and Bio-Chemistry, as well as Math 1010 (Algebra), and Math 1040 (Statistics).
Students Think Critically and Creatively
My intermediate writing class has helped me so much in discovering the ability to think critically about issues, and creatively address them in ways that spark an interest in my readers. I have enjoyed being able to address topics that relate to all of us and to present them in a way that engages all of us.
Students Develop The Knowledge and Skills to be Civilly Engaged
My natural disasters class at SLCC was one of my favorites due to the nature of the unique learning opportunity it provided me with. I absolutely loved and was intrigued by the information that was presented and what I was able to learn. At the end of the course I was given the opportunity to research and write about a global event that piqued my interest. I was touched at what I learned, and forever changed by what I now know.
In addition to my natural disasters course, I was also fortunate to take a Humanities course which greatly broadened my view of the world, and the understanding I have of it. I can truly say I was naive to many of the circumstances that have, or are, taken/taking place in our world. It is frightful to see the attitudes and behaviors of many populations, governments, and peoples. We must civilly engaged if we are to ever improve this world. We must work together, collaborate, and find common ground in order to improve and perpetuate the human family.
Students Develop the Knowledge and Skills to Work With Others in a Professional and Constructive Manner
I was privileged to complete my surgical technology certification at SLCC and in this nearly 2 year program I learned knowledge and skills that applied directly to my job and was able to work and associate with a great group of people. In dealing with patients in a healthcare environment it is necessary that you can conduct yourself in a professional manner and work as a team. If you don't do this, it is the patient who pays the consequences. I am grateful to have had the Surgical Technology Course at SLCC which has helped me to reach where I am today.
Students Develop Computer and Information Literacy
I was able to take a computer literacy course (CIS 1020 - Computer Essentials) in the Fall 2014 Semester. This course was so helpful and informative. I truly wish I would have taken it earlier in my academic career. It would have saved me hours in my other courses. The abilities I developed to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power-point to greater extent, have prepared me well for my future classes. I can't wait to utilize the new skills from this course in the future; inside and outside the classroom.
Students Develop the Attitudes and Skills for Lifelong Wellness
The Lifelong Wellness (HLAC 1096) course that I was able to complete during my time at SLCC was very helpful. It made me realize where my own health was at, and the need to improve it. This is key because if I plan to go into the field of nursing to help others care for themselves, I had better make sure I know how to take care of myself. This goal provides a realistic approach to developing attitudes and skills that will aide me in living a life of wellness. The other courses that I've completed or am currently taking at SLCC are helping me to develop continued positive attitudes toward learning and skills that are assisting me in becoming a healthier, and more fit human being; not just physically and mentally, but emotionally, ethically, and civilly as well.
