Statistics (Math 1040)
Statistics has been a class that was entirely different from what I thought it was going to be. This class has been quite useful. I've learned how to evaluate surveys and determine whether or not their methods are accurate/reliable, and how to infer their statistics and interpret the story that data is telling. I have to be honest, I thought this class would be just another math class that doesn't apply to the real world or have any practical use. BUT, after having taken this course, I couldn't be more wrong. This class has been the first math class that I can use in real world applications. I can now look at research conducted, or surveys that have taken place and decide whether or not their outcomes are accurate and trustworthy. The skills I have developed in statistics will help me as I delve further into my healthcare career because, as I plan to obtain a Doctorate as a Nurse Practitioner (DNP), I will have to do a great deal of research on public trends and health statistics. This class has taught me how to evaluate that data and determine whether or not it is dependable. Math 1040 has been the most helpful math class, which I see having a profound, helpful effect in my future study/academic and professional careers. Below are the class project (signature assignment) for the course, and the reflection for said project. This project involved taking a set of data collected from a sample of Skittles and finding values, determining conclusions, finding ranges, and testing claims/hypothesizes made about the data. The project was uploaded via several pictures because the assignment required both typed information and written calculations. Uploading pictures was the easiest/most efficient way to display the project for you, the viewer. So, read on, and see how fun math can be when it has to do with sugary goodness!
